June 17th is Father’s Day this year, and to celebrate we’ve dug up a bit of history about this renowned day. While there are a few stories about when and where Father’s Day began, one of the most well-known hails from Spokane, Washington. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd realized that there was much fuss being made over mothers, but nothing being done to celebrate fathers. She had a high regard for her own father, a Civil War veteran who raised his children alone after his wife died in child birth with their sixth child.
